Get Creative with a Birthday Party at Franklin Art Center in Downtown Franklin, Massachusetts

Looking for an original birthday party idea that’s sure to be a big hit with the kids? Franklin Art Center has the perfect party package for your child’s birthday party that’s sure to be a hit with all their friends. Instead of doing the same thing as all the other kids at school, try something a little different this year – something exciting and out-of-the-box.

The good news is that each birthday party celebration is customized according to the birthday boy or girl. The party theme, art project, and other activities are up to you. Feel free to come up with your own original party theme, or even play off one of the themes listed on the website. Under the sea, jungle safari, prince/princess themed, or maybe even a project designed around your favorite story book, are just a few examples you can choose from, but the possibilities are endless. Get creative!

After choosing the birthday party theme, it’s time to think a little more about the specifics of the arts and crafts project. A working artist will instruct the group throughout the party. Projects can include painting, clay, or a variety of other materials – Franklin Art Center guarantees that no two projects will look the same. Jewelry boxes, masks, and collages are just some of the popular projects.

The craft itself usually takes about 30-90 minutes, depending on the activity chosen. Parents can feel free to enjoy the rest of the party at the Center, since the party package includes a two-hour time block for each party. Parents can supply refreshments, cake, or even plan for other activities.

Head to the Franklin Art Center in the center of downtown Franklin, MA to meet Ian and Linda, and start the party planning today. And tell them Berry Insurance sent you, by printing this coupon (click here) for 10% off a Birthday Party Package extended to all community members. Go on – get creative this birthday!

Preferred Parking for Hybrid Vehicles: Tell us How You Really Feel

Many Massachusetts and New England residents are outraged at a store owner for giving preferred parking privileges to those with energy efficient automobiles. Different movements entice people to take a stand, and that’s exactly what New Englanders are doing. Hybrid cars are all the hype and people are taking an initiative and doing their part to save the environment by driving energy efficient cars. Does this mean they should have a preferred parking status?

In the past, reserved parking spaces were for the handicapped. Recently some retail establishments have begun to also include mothers with small children. Where does the specialty treatment end?

Preferred parking spaces were historically reserved for handicapped individuals because of a medical need, which is typically a physical disability. Eligibility for a handicapped sticker in Massachusetts requires a medical professional to declare the individual legally disabled. The resident must then submit an application to the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles medical affairs branch. The application must be submitted within thirty-days of certification by the medical professional. The Massachusetts registry also offers disabled veteran plates, inquire here for more information.

Preferred parking for hybrid vehicles? This is entirely different than a preferred parking spot allowed for someone who is physically handicapped. A New Hampshire store wanted to highlight their go green efforts by reserving preferred parking spaces for hybrid vehicles according to a story on MyFoxBoston.com. This isn’t the first green parking initiative that’s been made, but this store actually put these hybrid spaces with better accessibility then the handicapped spaces. Do you agree with this? Should changes be made to this parking situation? Should changes be voluntary, or should the state step in?

What are your thoughts about preferred parking spaces?

Save Energy & Stay Cool during the Summer Months

The summer months always seem to leave a dent in your wallet. Spending money here, there, and everywhere, trying to enjoy the outdoors with family and friends. We wouldn’t recommend halting the summer fun, but taking time to learn how to save some energy and money, may help make your fun go further.

Road trips are a family favorite in the summer months. Even though you might not venture far, expenses can add up quickly. Don’t make road trips more expensive than they should be. Always be sure to plan ahead. Make sure your automobile is ready for these adventures – check that your tires are filled to the correct pressure, be on the look-out for low gas prices, and don’t have the air conditioning on the entire time. Remembering to pack food and drinks versus purchasing meals and snacks on the road can be a huge source of savings. Packing food from home doesn’t have to be a drag either. A picnic lunch outside with some gorgeous scenery isn’t a punishment, especially if you’re spending that money on another fun activity!

On those summer days when you’re just hanging around the house, there are ways to conserve energy. If you have central air conditioning, don’t put the thermostat under 78 degrees, and be sure to clean the filter to maximize efficiency. Leave ceiling fans on to circulate air; this is a great way to create a cool breeze (make sure you have the fans running counterclockwise). Close all blinds and curtains during the hottest times of the day in order to eliminate the sun heating the windows. When cooking, try recipes that don’t involve using the stove or hot appliances. Instead use the microwave or an outdoor grill. Saving the laundry and dishes until a little later in the night will keep the heat out, and not force the air conditioning to work harder than necessary.

So don’t limit the fun this summer, instead limit the energy you’re using for that fun. Being energy efficient allows your money to go further.
